Hello! I’m SharperApex (aka the Knife Karen, and even sometimes, the Bevel Bitch!), and I’m really glad you’re here! My goal for this blog is to post original product reviews and articles with deeper-than-usual technical data about both folding and fixed-blade knives, blade steels, folding knife lock mechanisms, related materials and technologies, blade sharpening how-to guides, other EDC items, and I’ll likely even offer a take or two on modern flashlights!

As you might have guessed, I am a bit of a nerdy girl. I have been exposed to knives for most of my life, but I am admittedly a recent, active participant in the pocket knife collecting hobby. It all began in earnest when I stumbled across the YouTube video Mister Neighbor Rates Knife Steels by the brilliant and creative Dr. Larrin Thomas, which led to me spending a lot of time in his KnifeSteelNerds website. As the metallurgical inventor of the 2 new, dedicated knife steels, CPM MagnaCut and ApexUltra, his highly technical content on blade steel metallurgy fascinated me. Before long, I was hooked!

Exploring the hobby

As a result, I wanted to learn more about MagnaCut and experience for myself its reputed excellent balance of toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance. And from there, I learned more details about other blade steels, their balance of advantages and disadvantages, and the whole world of steel metallurgy as applied to pocketknives piqued my interest. This was followed, of course, by learning all about the mechanics of knives, folding knife lock mechanisms, knife handle materials, the variety of blade shapes, design aesthetics, how to effectively sharpen knife blades and so much more.

By now it’s probably clear that I am passionate, love writing and telling good stories – to a fault! I intend to dig more deeply than most knife reviews with extra, technical information that will be of interest to, well, people like me! My long-form content is admittedly not for everyone, but it’ll always be informative and, hopefully, entertaining as well. I try to keep a critical, skeptical eye out for misinformation (it’s everywhere!) and make my posts consistently accurate.

So thanks for visiting SharperApex. Let’s see where this adventure goes! I am eager to find out myself!

Yours truly,

SharperApex
